Well, for those of you that have shared hotels with me or camped with me, even sat through a long, boring movie with me, know that I snore. Not a cute little girly snore. More in the lines of wallpaper sucking, window pane rattling, scare the neighbors kind of snore. Yep, that's me! I work hard, play hard, sleep hard, and therefore, I snore hard! Well, over the past 6 months I have been wrestling with sinus congestion during the night. I wake up and can not move any air through my nose! If this happens to you, then you know the frustration! I was reading a friends blog about her using garlic for a sore throat. Now, this isn't anything new to me until I read how she was using this garlic. Now, I am a nurse, and I know anatomy fairly well. The eyes, ears, nose and throat are all connected, so this does make sense, but who'da thought! Okay, this is what she did. Cut a fresh clove of garlic into a couple of small pieces. Wrap them in cotton and stuff them into your ears! Do this just before going to bed and sleep with them like this. When you wake up in the morning, the garlic has been filtering though the ears, into sinuses, then into the lacrimal canals, and the throat. My friend did this and got great results. So, now I try it. The next morning, I slept well and had very little sinus congestion. But, my husband said it really helped him sleep since I hardly snored at all! Gasp! Really?? This is completely amazing! I was thinking that I would need surgery or a BiPap machine to sleep without any snoring! I have some clostraphobia issues and surgery is the last thing I want! So, this is really wonderful if it really works. I tried it again last night. 2 nights in a row with nearly no snoring! And the snoring that I did have was the "girly" kind! Yeah!! So, I think that we all need to give the clove a try! It has awesome attributes besides the head cold fix.
Some women use a toe of garlic to naturally treat a yeast infection by
inserting the garlic directly into the vagina. Garlic supplements can be
taken to naturally keep a heart attack at bay in place of aspirin.
Beware that garlic is a blood thinner, so it should be discontinued before
surgical procedures.
Eating garlic on a daily basis is supposed to help ward off esophageal,
stomach and colon cancer. In some test studies, garlic has been shown to
inhibit the growth of different types of cancer, particularly breast and
skin cancers and tumors.
In addition to aiding in cardiovascular health, garlic may also help improve
poor circulation, so it is excellent for someone with diabetes to implement
into their diet and internally (through supplements) on a daily basis.
Garlic is very antibacterial and antiviral, so it is beneficial in the
treatment of intestinal parasites.
Garlic is a very effective remedy for lowering blood pressure. It can also
slow down the heart rhythm, making it great for men and women who are
experiencing heart palpitations (like during menopause).
Another interesting home remedy is for treating acne (pimples) with fresh garlic.
Simply rub peeled fresh garlic or the juice from fresh garlic on acne prone
areas to help rid the skin of pimples and acne naturally without leaving a scar behind.
Garlic juice can be obtained from a jar of chopped garlic, which is available
in the produce section of most grocery stores.
I have lots of wild garlic here, but will add to my herb garden this spring to be sure to not run out. I literally will have garlic coming out of my ears! Ha! What uses do you have for garlic? I'd love to hear from you. Post your comments for us!
